26. Hybrid
Lagoon Performance Record In April 1984, hybrid lagoon facilities were constructed in the Mori Seimen Processing Plant in Aichi Prefecture, and operation begun. As the facilities are located close to a residential area, as a means of reducing the noise level, ? single-tube ejector type aeration was used in place of surface aeration by ? waterwheel aerators. The waste water from noodle processing had a low concentration of nutrient salts, and during continuous activated sludge processing, nitrogen and phosphorus compounds were added; however, for hybrid lagoon facilities (adopting the LLSB activated sludge method), bioprocessing was employed without adding any nutrient salts. As a result of the tests performed, the quality of discharged water was characterized by a T-N concentration of 0.9 mg/liter and a T-P concentration of 5.3 mg/liter, for denitrification and dephosphorization rates of 99.1% and 60.7%, respectively. In addition, BOD/COD elimination performance was also stable. The cost of electric power to operate these facilities was less than one-half that required for continuous activated sludge treatment. Survey conducted on September 26, 198S, by C. Itoh Forestry Forestry Co.,Ltd. with cooperation from ? Suma Engineering, and analyses performed by Hiyoshi Wealfare Work Company. Table
