19. Hybrid Lagoon Performance Record (1):
Wastewater Meat Processing
from 1981

In May of 1980, the first hybrid lagoon automatic control facilities were constructed in Tochigi City, Tochigi Prefecture, and are now in operation. The performance record of these facilities and rate of generation of excess sludge are as given below.

In the five years since the beginning of operation of these facilities in May 1981, the amount of drainage has increased each year; but even at year's end and in other seasons marked by vigorous plant activity, the rate of denitrification remained around 90%, and stable operation was maintained throughout the year. The concentration of activated sludge increased gradually, and at two years and two months after the beginning of operation, sludge processing (soil dispersion; white circles in tables) was begun. Recently, excess sludge purged of water has been mixed with assorted hog feed. Discharged water is used for agricultural purposes (black circles in tables).
